BOAR HUNTING IN CHILE AND ARGENTINA

This animal from the family of the pigs has a vigorous and compact body, being native to the European Carpathians, it was introduced into the continent by the farmer Pedro Luro in 1906, with absolutely hunting purposes; later on it spread successfully over many Argentinian provinces and most of Chilean Lakes District where we find the largest individuals. Nowadays being found in the shores of the littoral coast, in the Pampean scrublands and in the Andean woods in Chile. With omnivorous characteristics and dark fur, this species can live freely between 10 and 13 years.
The trophy of the wild boar consists of the tusks which develop a lot more in the male than in the female, which rarely has tusks standing out of its lips. Even though in both cases the growing is constant and the tusks are curved upwards, in the case of the adult stallion these exceed the 28 cms. of length, the animal itself sharpens them so as to protect himself from the predators. The female wild boars are in heat when the winter comes and the period of pregnancy is approximately 4 months, after which they can give birth up to twelve boars, depending on factors such as the female fertility, the diet, the age, etc. The baby boars are called "scratches" because they have white horizontal lines that gradually disappear with time, when they are six months old they are called pigs and the ones that become one year old are called wild boar piglets. When they are older they are called boars or "padrillos" (adult wild boar).
The hunt of this animal is usually done by still hunting it during the night, with the light only of the moon, We also stalk and still hunt .it is important to differentiate the "padrillos" from the female boars, since only in the first case the boar has large exposed tusks. Generally a hideout is prepared so that the hunter cannot be seen by the boar in places where these animals usually drink or eat; the waiting starts at dusk and it may last hours before the wished prey shows.
Shooting distance average: 40 mts. Adequate calibers: .308 Winchester, 30-06 Springfielf, 7 mm Rem Mag., 300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag.
